GISMA Business School is a German international high school of management and administration. It was founded in 1999 on the initiative of former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. GISMA was founded with the aim of offering internationally recognized academic management courses in Germany to allow students to study internationally in a German environment. GISMA was founded by the Lower Saxony region and major companies in and around Lower Saxony, such as Continental, Georgsmarienhütte, Nord/LB, Siemens, TUI and Volkswagen. Until August 2013, GISMA was managed and funded by both the public private partnership of Lower Saxony and business sponsors. The main idea of GISMA was to keep young leaders in Germany and hire international leaders to train them and then to work in Germany. The foundation of GISMA — the combination of location and international focus of its programmes — is still the guiding principle and foundation of the school. The classes are conducted in English by professors from the world's leading universities. At the same time, students have the opportunity to learn German without any additional costs (free classes in German). Upon successful completion of their studies, students will be entitled to obtain a residence permit for 18 months in order to take advantage of the opportunity to build a career in Germany.
